The HIP Sensor enhances the present weather capabilities of the OWI, LEDWI, WIVIS and DSP-WIVIS by detecting the occurrence and intensity of hail and ice pellets. It is offered as an option to be used with OSI present weather sensors. The acoustic arm is easy to install on top of the instrument enclosure.

The unit consists of a dome shaped acoustic sensor mounted to a cross arm. A thermostatically controlled 100 W heater is located in the acoustic head to melt falling snow and ice. The HIP sensor head is factory sealed.

An integral 1.5 meter cable is supplied as part of the assembly. It carries the heater power to the sensor and the acoustic signals to the enclosure. A grounding cable is also provided, along with an integral cross arm to mount the unit to the host electrical enclosure or tower.
